Proud of my work crafting the high-quality & voluntary Seattle Preschool Program, which we thoroughly researched & piloted to ensure it would provide the best life outcomes for 3 & 4 years olds. Due to our methodical approach creating this evidenced-based program for kids & the hard work of preschool teachers, this Seattle program has already earned national acclaim. Ideally, all city programs would be thoroughly vetted & proven to work so we can get best results from tax dollars and foster greater trust with City Hall.
It would be nice if the City paid even a token rent for all the classrooms the City is using. While the district cares a lot about pre-k, it is not part of their funded mission which is K-12 (except for Sped pre-k). As well, this researcher found some flaws in this program which seem to be ignored. If there isn't honesty in the outcomes/issues of the program, then it's a lot of happy talk.
We loved our experience with Thornton Creek’s Pre-K and would recommend to families still looking for a program.
